HCMC allowed to purchase and import Covid-19 vaccines
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has approved HCMC’s proposal on the purchase and import of the Covid-19 vaccines, according to the Government’s news site
The deputy prime minister asked the city to prevent price-gouging. Regarding vaccination, Resolution No. 21 that was adopted by the Government on February 26 encourages eligible units to organize vaccination programs for individuals and organizations.
The Ministry of Health will be in charge of licensing and accrediting Covid-19 vaccines and controlling their quality, as well as ensuring the progress, safety and efficiency of vaccination programs.
The HCMC government on June 11 wrote to the prime minister proposing allowing companies in the city to acquire Covid-19 vaccines on their own to help the city swiftly realize its target of vaccinating 70% of its population against Covid-19 as soon as possible.
Under the proposal, the firms will be allowed to proactively contact and negotiate with Covid-19 vaccine producers and distributors worldwide to import the vaccines into Vietnam. The municipal government also proposed the Government allow firms to sign contracts to hire competent organizations to vaccinate their employees.
HCMC has over 7.2 million residents aged 18 or older and over 1.6 million workers in industrial and export processing zones. However, till date, the city has received a mere 140,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine.
To reach herd immunity as soon as possible, it is necessary to urgently purchase Covid-19 vaccines, while proactively accessing Covid-19 vaccine supply sources in line with the Politburo’s and the Government’s policies which encourage firms, individuals and organizations to look for and buy Covid-19 vaccines.
